Researchers/EMS

Opportunities
R3 is made possible through relationships between healthcare providers, researchers, and educators. The paramedics and firefighters that respond to and treat cardiac arrest patients are the foundation of R3. Without your support none of this would be possible, and we are always looking for ways to include and engage new emergency responders.
The primary goal and benefit of R3 is to improve patient outcomes. We achieve this largely through two mechanisms: the advancement of prehospital resuscitation science and an ongoing focus on quality improvement.
EMS Agencies:
Participating services have access to reporting tools. Reports provide a breakdown of various performance metrics related to response and patient care, patient demographics, and outcomes. All are provided in aggregate.
Past studies have shown that monitoring and feedback is an important tool for improving quality of care. Agencies may benchmark against R3 as a whole and against Canadian average metrics (as a part of CanROC) to help understand their own performance, areas where they excel, and opportunities for improvement.
How can our agency participate in R3?
If you represent a service that would like to get involved, you can contact us to initiate the process.
How can I get involved as an independent responder?
We welcome the participation of paramedics, firefighters and other first responders. There are opportunities to work with an R3 sponsor to perform various research activities.
Because R3 is so heavily focused on the field, we also welcome front-line responders to help champion our cause amongst their peers. We are happy to answer questions and provide information to collaborators who can communicate our vision and spread awareness of our current projects and operations.
Please contact us to get started.

How can I get involved as an investigator or student?
The first step is to look through our list of investigators to see if you have a potential existing R3 partner that could introduce you to the R3 team. All potential investigators are encouraged to contact us to create formal partnerships. Trainees from undergraduate to graduate level, and across disciplines from nursing and paramedicine to engineering and basic science are also encouraged to reach out.
What type of work is R3 currently doing?
R3 is actively collecting cardiac arrest data from several regions across the Greater Toronto and Horseshoe Area. We are also working with investigators on proposals for various studies.
